Image The history of the University of Coimbra(external link) dates back to the century subsequent to the very foundation of the Portuguese nation, since the University was established in the 13th century, in 1290. Nowadays, the University of Coimbra is an indisputable reference in higher education and research in Portugal, due to the quality of the courses taught at its eight Faculties and to the advances achieved in pure and applied research in various areas of knowledge, in Portugal and in the world. The prestige of the University of Coimbra may be demonstrated by the position it holds in the international rankings of universities and research centers.
Among the eight Faculties of UC, Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC) is the biggest in number of students and teachers. Teacher education graduation courses were created in 1971, and since then, FCTUC has developed a prominent role in science teacher education. With the Bologna three teaching master courses were developed. A PhD Course on Science Teaching has also been implemented.

Image Piedade Vaz Rebelo, PhD, Assistant Professor, Teacher Educator at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC). Expertise on Teacher Education, Science Education.
She is responsible for disciplines at the Teacher Education Master Courses, at the PhD Course for Science Teacher Education, at the PhD course for Teacher Education and at the Master Course Supervision of Instruction, supervising theses and researches developed by elementary and secondary school teachers. She is also an External Evaluator of Schools, collaborating as expert with the Education Inspectorate.

Image Jaime Carvalho Silva: PhD, Mathematician, Associate Professor, Teacher at the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. Expertise on Mathematics Education, History of Mathematics, ICT and Mathematics Education. Secretary General of International Commission on Mathematical Instruction for the period 2010-2012. He has been developing several blogs and networks aiming to promote teacher education through social media. He developed f a national portal on science education and teacher education “Mocho” and is the authors of mathematic textbooks for elementary and secondary education.

Image Carlos Barreira, PhD, Assistant Professor, Teacher at the Faculty of Education of the University of Coimbra. Expertise on Educational Evaluation, Teacher Education, School Organisation and Evaluation. He is responsible for disciplines a, at the PhD course for Teacher Education and at the Master Course Supervision of Instruction, supervising thesis and researches developed by elementary and secondary school teachers.

Image 'Rosa Doran, Physicist, Teacher Trainer, President of the NUCLIO – Núcleo Interativo de Astronomia, a non-profit association devoted to public outreach and education. President of the Executive Council of the international non-profit association Global Hands-on Universe, an association devoted to bringing real research experiences to schools. Vice-chair of the education panel of COSPAR (Commission for Space Research) and coordinator of the Galileo Teacher Training Program, a legacy of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 with representatives in 100 nations.
